HISTORY

Eons ago, the klovian species united the galaxy they developed in. All of the sapient spacefaring species that dotted the stars in that enormous space came to be ideologically aligned under the incredibly powerful telepathic species, and in so doing was peace and order established. Seeing this enormous success and with the unstoppable power of industry that level of synchronization provided, the klovians repeated this process over thousands of generations after traveling through dark space to the space they named Galaxy #2. Once Galaxy #2, a place utterly alien to the species, was united into their order, the klovians realized that they could repeat this process over and over again, and thus ensure the prosperity of all sapient life. To this end, with lessons learned from the complicated and lengthy process of Galaxy #2's pacification, a new galaxy was selected (to be called Galaxy #3) and the initial ships were launched into dark space with a generationally long journey where these new klovians would be cloned into existence to start this process of pacification and unification once more.

"Galaxy #3," as the klovians called it, was known as the "Milky Way" galaxy to one of its more dominant local sapient species. When the ships baring information to produce a new generation of klovians arrived, the AIs controlling the seedbeds identified two viable species to base their system of unification on: the humans and the guroks. The AI settled on using humans, due to their species apparently being more numerous and thus logically more adept at colonization and adaptation across different planets. Thus, the new generation of klovians - following the lessons of Galaxy #2, were genetically altered such that their bodies physically resembled humans in every way, even matching some of their organ structures and other bodily functions, though their brains and several other key parts of their bodies would remain klovian. Once these new klovians were created, they set out onto Galaxy #3 in hopes of spreading a unification of ideals, a process they knew would take generations.

At the point Fergan Godwyn was born, that process was approximately three hundred years in. By this time, the klovians of Galaxy #3 had created a governmental body uniting several hundred spacefaring species under their banner (though only around eight of those were interstellar species with holds across multiple planets at time of discovery) called the Commonwealth Interstellar Alliance (CISA). The scope of the galaxy saw it divided territorially mostly between their CISA, the gurok-controlled Confederacy of United Peoples (CUP), and the three great fractious human-based civilizations of the Solarian Empire, United Liastria, and the League of Civilized Worlds (LCW). With some other minor powers dotted around it as well, the klovians' slow process of unification was proceeding smoothy, albeit being met with more resistance by humans in particular than they might've hoped for.

As a young man Fergan took a great interest in the other species of the galaxy. Though fairly middling telepathically by his own species standards, he showed a great appetite for connecting with others, as well as a great pride in the overall goal of ordered unification. These traits, along with the circumstances of his birth (what planet he was born on, his schooling, etc) saw him getting recruited into the CISA's intelligence division, where they would plant him as a peace negotiator and investigator to ensure the "stability" of the galaxy, neutralizing destabilizing threats to galactic order before they ever became and issue. Fergan too, excelled in this work, and took whatever positions he was ordered to - a fact that has seen him living outside of Commonwealth space for most of his adult life.

His most recent posting has been a double age operating out the Galactic Narcotics Agency (GNA), where he acts a narco agent in the contested territory between the Solarian Empire, United Liastria, and toe a lesser extent the CUP, known colloquially as the Rogues Gallery. His stuffy demeanor is occasionally out of place there, but his skill at improvisation and the team he has build around him more than compensate. Though not loved by the often criminal elements of the Gallery, he has become an accepted presence on many stations there, and the ship under his name (the Krueger) has become something of a trademark. Though he has been involved in many incidents (and played his part in stopping several threats coming from both large empires and rogue operatives), his most notable confrontations have been with a shadow organization nominally aligned with the Solarian Empire that calls itself the Illuminati, after an old Earth myth. Subtle clashes with them have spilled out into the shadows of much wider conflicts, though Fergan and his team have pulled out more wins than not.

(obviously this paints with a broad brush, I might go more granular later. He has a main partner, a shapeshifter named Nina Parker, as well as a wider team of around a dozen individuals working with/under him and a few dedicated stories I've got in mind, but this gist of him being a space-spy and the broad context of his backdrop is probably sufficient for now)

PERSONALITY

Basically imagine a posh spy who is also an alien telepath. He's stuffy but also a big nerd. Vegetarian, humanitarian (well like the multiple species version of that), but low key also a little accidentally classist sometimes because of his upbringing and patriotism for his people's society. That said, he's lived on the fringes of that society most of his life so while he has a ton of pride in it, he also isn't really a model citizen of it, as he's too absorbed in individualistic thought. Loves to understand other people's perspectives, though he only rarely will internalize their morals. ... also what I said in the above sections. This may be expanded later.

POWERS/ABILITIES

Fergan's main "super power," relative to other species, is being an incredibly powerful telepath. By klovian standards, his abilities are actually relatively average (being R2 out of five levels on their scale), but on the T-scale that most species operate at this would put him at about a T8 out of twelve levels. What this means is that he can communicate with people through shared brainwaves at a range sufficient to keep in broad contact with many individuals across the scope of a whole planet and with individuals he focuses on across about the width of a lightyear (so in practice a whole solar system). Additionally, he can receive and respond to more powerful telepathic summons from greater telepaths from much further distances without injury, though he cannot prompt such conversations himself at his relative level of power.

Klovian telepathy is primarily used for communication, but Fergan can also use it to "read minds" The surface thoughts of individuals, broadcast through their brainwaves, come into him naturally while he's in proximity to them unless they have specifically trained in techniques to avoid that (or are from a species which is naturally resistant). He can further "probe" into a mind while in conversation with them, meshing their brainwaves together to read surface thoughts while talking or delve deeper into memories and/or emotions as long as the connection is kept. The more invasive this process is, however, the closer his proximity must be and/or deep his concentration must be.

His telepathy also affords him the ability to create "mental spaces" that he or others he contacts can inhabit. While telepathic communication is usually processed by other species are shared thoughts and/or "thought speech," to klovians it is far more common to process a mental landscape that tricks the physical senses into believing that those communicating are sharing a physical space even if they aren't, a sensation many describe as being in a shared dream. Due to klovian parallel processing, Fergan can maintain several of these mental spaces at once while still moving about and talking with his physical body, though most other species find this difficult - entering and maintaining connection in a mental space is often more like meditation to the likes of humans, where they need to disconnect from their physical senses to keep focus.

Parallel processing is also a major ability he has. Inherent to the klovian brain - and further trained in Fergan by his status as a CISA investigator - is the ability to compartmentalize parts of their brain for simultaneous use. What this means is that Fergan can isolate parts of his psyche, memories, or thought processes away from others while telepathically communicating (a vital ability in an all-telepathy society). While this is the processing's main purpose, his training has also allowed him to, in practical terms, think about more than one thing at once. Far beyond the minds of other species, Fergan can easily do things like maintain five or six different conversations at the same time, or puzzle out a complicated math problem in his head while also performing a complicated physical task without any loss efficacy for either project by segmenting out parts of his brain's processing. This same processing is what allows him to operate in both mental space(s) and physical space at the same time with no significant loss in functionality.

( In terms of RP permissions, I understand that mind reading is often a touchy subject. Obviously its inherent to this character, but I'm willing to handwave that for people's comfort. Though even if you are resistant to mind reading, I would love to play with the telepathic communication and/or mental spaces if that would be acceptable for you. As I just intend to play him on memes for now I don't think I'll make an actual permissions check post for him, but just check others and/or confirm per thread, but this post has comments screened and/or you can PM me if you like on that front )
